What is PwDone?

PwDone is a desktop app that helps people regain access to their own password-protected files. It supports ZIP, RAR, 7z, PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, and runs entirely on the user's device: files, hashes and recovered passwords are never uploaded.

Instead of exposing command-line recovery engines, PwDone guides the user through selecting a file, choosing a recovery approach and watching progress in a simple interface.

Boilerplate

Short: PwDone is a local password recovery app for your own ZIP, RAR, 7z, PDF and Office files. It runs on your device and never uploads your data.

Long: PwDone helps you open your own password-protected files when you have forgotten the password. It detects the format, extracts a recovery hash locally, validates it and runs professional recovery engines (Hashcat and John the Ripper) behind a guided desktop workflow. Everything happens on your device — no uploads, no accounts, no telemetry. PwDone is available for Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and macOS 14+ (Apple Silicon).
